Tai Chi for Seniors with Omar Avina
Your Movement and Mindset are the key to improved well-being.
"My name is Omar Avina, I was born in a small city called Jacona in Michoacan, Mexico. My journey with Chinese martial arts began at a young age, leading me to earn my black belt by the age of 13. In 2007, I embarked on my first trip to China to further my training in Kung Fu Wushu. My dedication to the art was highlighted in 2011 when I represented the Wushu Mexico team at the 11th World Wushu Championship.
In 2014, my pursuit of knowledge took me back to China, where I spent a year in Beijing studying the Chinese language. Subsequently, I moved south to work as a fitness and Wushu coach at an international school. My journey continued in 2017 in Beijing, where I delved deeper into my studies of Wushu and the Chinese language. A year later, I began a Master's degree in Traditional Chinese Sports, while also working as a Wushu and Tai Chi coach across various sports centers.
The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 led me to return to Mexico, where I spent two years teaching Wushu and Tai Chi in Mexico City. In January 2022, a visit to Ukraine to meet my girlfriend coincided with the outbreak of war, prompting our return to Mexico. A year later we got happily married and decided to relocate to Canada, continuing our journey in martial arts and cultural exploration."
Practicing Tai Chi can improve both your physical and mental health. This safe and gentle form of exercise is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels. Plus, it is easily adaptable to certain physical limitations and health conditions.
